Prosecutors and judges trained at INJ in the field of European mechanisms to protect EU funds

Today, November 18, 2025, the training seminar "Protection of the financial interests of the European Union and the role of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO)" dedicated to judges and prosecutors took place at the National Institute of Justice. The event was organized by INJ and the French Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. An important support for INJ, in carrying out this training, came from the European Public Prosecutor's Office.

In the opening of the seminar, the director of INJ, Ramona Strugariu, highlighted the innovative nature and relevance of the topic: "It is the first time that we have a training regarding an extremely important subject: the protection of the financial interests of the European Union, judicial cooperation, the role of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, aspects that are already part of the daily life of the Republic of Moldova, and which, I hope, will occupy an increasingly important place in your daily activity."

For her part, the French Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Dominique Waag, reiterated French support for justice reform and emphasized the essential role of prosecutors and judges in this process. "The Republic of Moldova has chosen the European path, and your training on the subject of European institutions is the cornerstone for a solid and necessary construction in the architecture of the judicial system."

The seminar benefited from the expertise of Ms. Dana Manuela Ana, European EPPO delegated prosecutor, and Ms. Simona Pavel, French liaison magistrate for the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.

The training sessions covered several topics, from the presentation of the mechanisms through which the European Union protects its financial interests and forms of cooperation with national authorities, to the in-depth analysis of the regulatory framework. The trainers detailed the provisions of the PIF Directive and the EPPO Regulation, explaining the structure and powers of the European Public Prosecutor's Office.

During the interactive session, the participants discussed the ways of cross-border judicial cooperation and examined practical cases from the work of the EPPO.

The event is part of a project that is part of France's wider effort to support the Republic of Moldova in its process of joining the European Union.
