Mock Trial at the National Institute of Justice: Best Practices in State Response to Cases of Violence
The audience of the National Institute of Justice together with the students from the State University of Moldova, from the "Ștefan cel Mare" Police Academy and from the Academy of Music, Theater and Visual Arts simulated a criminal trial aimed at developing professional skills in dealing with cases of family violence and sexual abuse of children.
The activity took place on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, being opened by Ecaterina Popa, head of the Training and Research Directorate of the National Institute of Justice, and Alina Șavga, doctor of law, university lecturer at the State University of Moldova.
The young people, guided by Arina Țurcan, INJ trainer, lawyer, and Eleonora Grosu, program director from the Women's Law Center, assumed the roles of judges, prosecutors and parties in the process. The participants were trained in the conduct of the judicial investigation, the preparation of the pleadings and the pronouncement of the sentence.
The event was organized by the National Institute of Justice, the Criminal Law Department of the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova and the Women's Law Center and is part of the international campaign 16 days of activism against gender violence.
