Swedish parliamentarians and UNDP officials visiting the National Institute of Justice

The National Institute of Justice was visited, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, by delegates of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Swedish Parliament, who were accompanied by the UNDP resident representative in the Republic of Moldova, Daniela Gasparikova, and other officials from this organization. The delegation met with the director of the Institute, Ramona Strugariu, and with the team members: the head of the training and research department, Ecaterina Popa, and the head of the continuous training section, Octavian Bivol.

During the meeting, the results of the long-term support provided by UNDP regarding the strengthening of institutional capacities, including the INJ infrastructure, were mentioned, in order to create an environment conducive to the effective training of professionals in the legal sector and to modernize the process of admission and training of candidates for the positions of judges and prosecutors.

The discussions focused on the functioning of the institution and the training needs identified according to the priorities of the national judicial system. Participants in the meeting addressed the importance of changing mindsets through education and increasing public confidence in the justice system. Also highlighted were the challenges of attracting experienced trainers to provide the necessary expertise and to retain this expertise within the National Institute of Justice.

The official visit included a guided tour of the study spaces that have been reconfigured and equipped with specialized equipment, as well as the presentation of the improved infrastructure for people with disabilities, all these achievements being supported by UNDP programs.
