The member of the INJ Council, Ion Covalciuc, participated in the experience exchange program in the USA

Member of the Council of the National Institute of Justice, Ion Covalciuc, chief prosecutor of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office, together with other representatives of the legal system of the Republic of Moldova, recently participated in an experience exchange program in the United States of America.

Sponsored by the Congressional Office for International Leadership, the program facilitated the transfer of knowledge and best practices between legal professionals in both countries. The delegation of the Republic of Moldova made several visits to relevant institutions in the state of North Carolina – the US Attorney General's Office for the Middle District, the Supreme Court of Justice, the Guilford County Court, Elon University, the Department of Forensic Medicine of the Greesboro Police, etc.

At Elon University Law School, the INJ Council member spoke to American faculty and students about the procedures for becoming a prosecutor and judge, while also presenting the initial training process at the National Institute of Justice, including admission and graduation issues.

At the meetings with the American counterparts, topics related to the rule of law, the jurisdiction of federal and state courts, the role of the prosecutor in the US criminal justice system, the legal process of identifying and confiscating criminal assets, judicial education, current challenges of the justice systems, etc. were addressed.
