Round table "Strengthening the psychological safety of judges and its impact on access to justice"
The National Institute of Justice hosted, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, the round table "Strengthening the psychological safety of judges and its impact on access to justice". The event brought together members of the Superior Council of the Magistracy, judges, court presidents, psychologists, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health and the Superior Council of the Magistracy in Romania.
The main objectives of the discussions were to identify effective methods of psychological evaluation both for candidates for the position of judge and for judges in office, to reduce the consequences of overwork on the quality of the judicial act and to develop the psychological resilience of magistrates in crisis situations. It was also aimed at designing a psychological support mechanism for the entire court staff.
The event agenda included topics such as the utility and objectivity of psychological assessment, ways to optimize the process, outcome management and specialist support. Romania's experience was analyzed and the necessary actions were outlined to ensure a suitable psychological climate in the judicial system, considering that judicial well-being is essential for the quality of justice.
The round table was organized by the Superior Council of Magistracy in partnership with the National Institute of Justice and Cooperazione Internazionale Sud Sud (CISS).
