Stakeholder meeting of the pilot project to strengthen the capacities of the legal system in the field of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear security

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the General Prosecutor's Office, the meeting of relevant stakeholders of the pilot project aimed at strengthening the capacities of investigation, prosecution and examination of cases related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear security (CBRN) took place. The interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, Adrian Cerbu, also participated in the meeting. The new project will be fully funded by the European Commission under the European Union CBRN Centers of Excellence Initiative and implemented by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

The representatives of the national institutions - the General Prosecutor's Office, the National Institute of Justice, the National Agency for the Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activity, the General Inspectorate of the Police, the Ministry of Justice - talked with the regional coordinator for Southeast and Eastern Europe of the CBRN Program, Talgat Toleubayev.

The main topics addressed included the objectives and purpose of the project to improve CBRN investigative, criminal prosecution and examination skills, planning training sessions to increase the CBRN expertise of INJ beneficiaries, especially prosecutors, the possibility of further integration into the continuous training plan of some specialized courses, training a group of trainers in the given subject thus ensuring the multiplication of knowledge at the national level, etc.

At the meeting, the parties reiterated the importance of strengthening national security and preparing the legal system to face the complex challenges in the field of CBRN in the context of achieving The national action plan for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union for the years 2024-2027.
