Double event at the National Institute of Justice: public lecture "Independence of the judiciary and the rule of law" and the launch of the book "Breaking the curse"

A large-scale event that combined the legal and historical dimensions took place on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the National Institute of Justice. The public lesson about the independence of justice and the rule of law, supported by the ex-Procurator General of Romania, Augustin Lazăr, was followed by the launch of the book "Breaking the curse", whose author, prosecutor Cătălin Ranco Pițu, signed the indictment in the Revolution File. The event, opened by the Director of the National Institute of Justice, Ramona Strugariu, brought together audiences from both programs, trainers and employees of the INJ.

During the public lesson, the crucial role of the independent judiciary in maintaining the institutional balance and protecting democratic values was highlighted. Current challenges facing judicial systems and the responsibility of legal professionals in ensuring an impartial and fair administration of justice were also addressed.

An important moment of the day was the launch of the book "Breaking the curse", in which the author makes an X-ray of what happened in December 1989 and analyzes the mechanisms of manipulation that influenced the seizure of power, in the context of the Romanian Revolution. Based on documents, testimonies and transcripts from the press of the time, the volume provides a detailed perspective on the events and emphasizes the impact of disinformation on state institutions.

Among the speakers was Gheorghe Cosneanu, General of Justice and former head of the PICCJ Military Prosecutors Section.
