European Union law, for the attention of INJ trainers

Trainers of the National Institute of Justice attended a training course in the field of European Union law, between October 24-25, 2024. Organized in partnership with the EU and CoE joint project "Support for justice reform in the Republic of Moldova", the activity constitutes an essential stage in the process of aligning the content of judicial training with European standards.

"The European dimension of judicial training is no longer just an additional component, but becomes a central element of professional training in the field of justice. Consequently, it is necessary to introduce and strengthen a module on European Union law intended for the beneficiaries of the National Institute of Justice," said, at the opening of the event, the interim Director of the INJ, Adrian Cerbu.

The Head of the Office of the Council of Europe in Chisinau, Falk Lange, stated the following: "The aspirations of the Republic of Moldova are very clear, but, at the same time, their realization requires a long-term process, with responsibilities and challenges, involving all state institutions, including through the correct application of European Union law by judges and prosecutors. In this context, the training course in the field of European Union law is a very important and timely one for the Republic of Moldova."

The training sessions were facilitated by Răzvan Horațiu Radu, prosecutor at the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice from Bucharest, trainer of the National Institute of Magistracy in Romania.

For two days, the participants deepened their knowledge about the institutions and the decision-making process at the EU level, the rule of law in the European space, the mechanisms of judicial cooperation in criminal matters, etc. Particular attention was paid to the organization and functioning of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the relations between it and national courts, as well as the complementarity between the CJEU and the European Court of Human Rights.
