Combating discrimination against the Roma population and hate speech, topic for reflection during a public lesson at INJ

On Friday, August 1, 2025, at the National Institute of Justice, the public lesson titled "State commitment to prevent discrimination against the Roma population and hate speech" took place, organized around the European Day of Commemoration of the Holocaust against the Roma.

The event was opened by the director of the National Institute of Justice, Ramona Strugariu, who emphasized the importance of legal education in promoting equality, tolerance and respect for fundamental human rights. Dumneaei highlighted the need to combat segregation and manifestations of hate speech, as well as the essential role of future judges and prosecutors in eliminating prejudices and systemic injustices, in order to contribute to building a fair and inclusive society.

The public lecture was held by Nicolae Radiță, deputy general director of the Inter-Ethnic Relations Agency (ARI), who presented the state's priorities in the field, the current legislative instruments and the actions taken to combat discrimination directed against Roma people. He also emphasized the contribution of ARI to the implementation of government policies, the application of international treaties to which the Republic of Moldova is a party, as well as the alignment with the relevant European Union directives. During the presentation, persistent challenges related to social and educational inclusion were addressed, as well as the role of the courts in ensuring respect for the principle of equality.

The INJ audience had the opportunity to be actively involved in the discussions, to analyze practical aspects and relevant jurisprudence, which favored the consolidation of an applied understanding of the phenomenon of racial discrimination in the exercise of the act of justice.

The activity reflects the firm commitment of the National Institute of Justice to ensure a complete and integrated professional training, which promotes the values ​​of the rule of law, and is included in the Program for the support of the Roma population in the Republic of Moldova for the years 2022-2025.
